In the height of summer, production lines at Ningbo Taifengyuan Electric Co., Ltd. are running at full capacity. Twenty-one high-precision Rogowski coil winding machines operate in orderly sequence, while workers rush to complete the packaging and testing procedures for a batch of high-precision Rogowski coil sensors bound for overseas power grid projects. Containers loaded with finished products are being loaded onto trucks one after another, ready to be shipped from the Port of Ningbo, as the company accelerates the delivery schedule for its overseas orders.

This enterprise based in Cixi is undergoing a dramatic transformation of its market positioning: once a follower engaged in low-end OEM manufacturing within China’s power sensing industry, it has evolved into a frontrunner supplying comprehensive new energy power sensing solutions to the world.

At present, new energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaic power are being connected to power grids on a large scale. The widespread adoption of electric vehicles, charging piles and frequency conversion equipment has transformed traditional power grids from stable and controllable "unidirectional power flow" systems into complex "bidirectional turbulent flow" systems marked by drastic fluctuations. "The existing sensing equipment suffers from low precision, slow response speed and single functionality, making it incapable of meeting the multi-dimensional monitoring requirements of new-type power systems," stated Yuan Guojun, person in charge of Taifengyuan Electric. For a long time, China’s domestic power sensing industry has remained trapped in low-end component OEM production, plagued by insufficient product precision and reliance on foreign parties for core manufacturing processes, with high-end application scenarios almost entirely monopolized by imported equipment.

Taifengyuan opted for a challenging path: stepping away from cutthroat low-price competition to independently develop core technologies. Over eight years, the enterprise has invested over 80 million yuan in research focused on the core manufacturing processes of Rogowski coils. It has achieved a winding spacing precision of 0.1 millimeters for coils and successfully developed multi-modal high-precision current sensors capable of capturing subtle power grid fluctuations with accuracy. These sensors are applicable to high-end global scenarios including new energy grid integration, precision medical treatment and AI computing power data centers.

"Once we hold core technologies in our own hands, all the aforementioned challenges can be readily resolved," said Yuan Guojun. To date, the company holds 210 patents and has led or participated in the formulation of 12 national and industrial standards. It has completely shed its identity as a low-end OEM manufacturer and completed its transformation into a professional service provider of comprehensive new energy power sensing solutions.

Technological breakthroughs have unlocked broader market space, yet Taifengyuan’s strategy for overseas expansion differs from the prevalent low-price competition model adopted by peers. "We do not merely sell individual components; we deliver complete sets of sensing solutions," Yuan Guojun explained. Backed by a fully self-developed industrial chain, the enterprise customizes complete sensing packages tailored to the power grid standards, climatic conditions and project load demands of different countries, upgrading its business scope from single-product supply to full-lifecycle operation and maintenance services.

This constitutes Taifengyuan’s core competitive edge in overseas markets. Addressing prominent pain points in overseas new energy power grids—severe operating condition fluctuations, stringent equipment access standards and exorbitant costs of conventional imported sensing equipment—the technical team has repeatedly optimized product parameters. Matching the performance of foreign equivalent products while offering more comprehensive supporting services, the company has secured numerous overseas projects in succession. At present, Taifengyuan’s products are sold to multiple countries and regions across South America, Europe and Southeast Asia, delivering stable data sensing support for local wind and photovoltaic grid integration and operation. The enterprise maintains ongoing communication with new energy projects worldwide, with a robust pipeline of intended overseas cooperation orders in reserve.

Taifengyuan’s overseas expansion drive does not prioritize foreign markets at the expense of domestic ones. Domestically, the company actively collaborates with State Grid Corporation of China and China Southern Power Grid, deploying its high-precision sensing technologies for supporting domestic wind power, photovoltaic and energy storage projects. Internationally, mature technical solutions are continuously exported, and overseas business feeds back into domestic technological iteration, forming a two-way cycle where overseas markets fuel technological upgrading and the domestic market consolidates the industrial foundation.

"We must advance both domestic and overseas markets simultaneously to avoid technological bottlenecks and overreliance on a single market. Only in this way can we achieve steady growth and maintain long-term competitiveness," Yuan Guojun remarked. Looking ahead, Taifengyuan will continue to deepen its presence in the high-precision power sensing sector and increase investment in cutting-edge technology research and development. Leveraging robust independent innovation capabilities, it will smooth the channels for domestic and international dual circulation, bring Cixi-manufactured smart sensing products to more countries worldwide, and contribute Chinese solutions to the construction of new-type power systems across the globe.
